The Outside Podcast
Heretofore, we were not familiar with Outside magazine. Turns out, it's a publication for the rock-climbers among you, the hikers, the hang-gliders - outdoorsy types into whose ranks we do not fall. But with the launch of this podcast, Outside have well and truly got our attention. Inspired by stories from the magazine's decades-deep archives, their first series, titled "Science of Survival", lives up to its arresting premise. We've heard about the addling effects of a lightning strike, desert dehydration within reach of a water source, and an unusual, immersive account of what it feels like to freeze to death. A proven narrative format combining personal accounts, thoughtful sound design and sure-handed narration from producers Robbie Carver and Peter Frick-Wright makes for a great-listening program, and the subject matter tips this into must-hear territory.
