The Center for Investigative Reporting does award-winning work in this regular podcast, covering matters of urgent public interest with a particular focus on abuses of power. That makes it sound rather grim, which it's not. It's sharp and lively and moves at a brisk pace. Usually it's reporting on (or breaking) stories that are unfolding, but it also looks to the past, as in a recent episode about The Pentagon Papers, or a Mother Jones' reporter's undercover investigation of life as a guard in a private prison. Thorough and important.
