Radio wunderkinds Whitney Jones (of The Moth) and Alex Kapelman (of Millennial) are interested in how music shapes and reflects the world we live in. In seeking out these stories, they cast their net beyond the albums in your earphones and into the wider world of sound. Some episodes are about the work and practice of music - the experience of starting a record label, or coping with vocal injury; the particular set of skills required to craft the perfect porn soundtrack. Others examine the sonic phenomena in our everyday lives that we don't experience as music, but which possess an undeniable musicality - the default iPhone message tone, for example - or small, personal stories that might otherwise go unspoken: a transgender singer whose voice has changed with testosterone; the Ukrainian rapper everyone thought was Nas, but (probably) isn't Nas.
Each episode is short - 15 minutes or so - and the backlist can be consumed in the course of a leisurely day. Essential listening for audiophiles.
