Meet our favourite new radio drama of 2016 (and that's a pretty big call in a year of great dramas). This funny, deftly executed, very lovable British series drops us off at humanity's first Mars colony, along with an earnest new station supervisor, Hobb. Newly roused from suspended animation, Hobb is keen to get her teeth into her new role, but quickly discovers that the colony is in worse shape than she'd hoped. Actually, it's totally dysfunctional, peopled with unhinged characters (an off-the-rails Science department intern; a sociopathic base manager; a civilian population who are rabid for processed meats) and crippled by bureaucratic in-fighting. Hobb is no quitter, so proceeds to tackle the chaos with prefect-like spirit, but she's going to have to cut some corners to help the disillusioned employees of MarsCorp un-fuck their fuck-ups.
The production values are high here, but what really lifts this to the next level is the writing, which is funny, and the performances, which are convincing. Twelve episodes will complete the series.
