Making Gay History
This extremely worthy project is also great listening, two qualities that don't always go hand in hand. In Making Gay History, Eric Marcus shares the interviews he recorded with legends of the LGBTQ civil rights movement back in the 90s. His subjects are diverse, and bore witness to iconic events and social change; their testimony formed the source material for his landmark book. Marcus is now in his fifties, gay marriage is legal in the United States, and several of the people he spoke to are no longer with us, but thankfully these interviews remain. They are presented with editorial restraint - each episode features an interesting or representative snippet, around 15 minutes long - and are thoughtfully introduced and contextualised by Marcus. The production support of Pineapple Street Media is in evidence here, too.
