There are people who say there's nothing left on Earth to discover, but those people are not readers of Atlas Obscura. Helmed by CEO David Plotz (whom you might well know from the Slate Political Gabfest), the website's mission is to uncover strange and amazing places, all over the world. In this podcast - a sponsored co-production with ZipCar - Plotz stays closer to home, but his ambitions are no less grandiose: he wants to discover strange and amazing places within driving distance. In Episode 1, he and Atlas Editor-in-Chief Reyhan Harmanci unchain themselves from their desks to take a road trip out of New York. Their day's journey leads them to fascinating, little-known sites on the outskirts of the city: a Rockefeller estate, an historic foundry, and a delicious sandwich. We follow just over their shoulders, documentary style, and it's a very pleasant trip.
