Another Dead Man Walking
Sky News Radio reporter Ian Woods brings us the case of Richard Glossip, who, when Woods meets him, is staring down his execution date after 18 years in prison. Glossip has maintained his innocence from the outset and there is no forensic evidence that points to his guilt, but two juries and multiple appeals have failed to acquit him of a crime - murder, or rather, putting someone else up to murder - that he insists he did not commit. Woods approaches the case with caution, but comes to build a friendship with the man, as well as the advocates who are working in his cause (including the nun who was played by Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking; also, actual Susan Sarandon). The process of trying to save Glossip's life is a sickening rollercoaster of raised and dashed hopes, and an indictment - like we needed another one - of the cracks in America's justice system, which can swallow a person whole.
