You Must Remember This
Once upon a time in Hollywood, actors were remote and impossibly glamorous. We never saw them doing stuff in the real world, unless we were supposed to see them. Studios were extremely powerful and held their exclusively-contracted talent in thrall. Addictions, infidelities and undesirable personal histories were covered up, or invented and exploited for publicity purposes.
OK, so maybe things aren't super different now. But with the passage of time, the confessional impulses of the former Hollywood elite, and, you know, the internet, those old secrets are all fair game - we just have to dig them out and piece them together. In this pursuit, critic and film historian Karina Longworth is our dauntless spirit guide, taking us behind the mythologies and gossip and characters of 20th century Hollywood. She tells us the best, buried stories about familiar names (Errol Flynn = hot mess and accused rapist; Audrey Hepburn = physically stunted during childhood) and brings forgotten players out from the shadows. Each scripted 40min-ish episode is an evocative, auditory pleasure, and a passport to another world. Go there, with our blessing.
