The Body on the Moor

The Body on the Moor

Late last year, a body was found near Saddleworth Moor. It was a man in his late sixties or early seventies. He lay in calm repose, having died without a struggle. He carried no ID, no phone, two train tickets, 130 pounds cash. Armed only with this handful of clues, local police set about trying to identify the man and reporter Jon Manel documents their long, painstaking, as-yet-unsolved investigation. Listeners who have heard Manel's Who Killed Elsie Frost? will notice stylistic echoes here - each player on this grim stage is treated with dignity, and the mystery is not played for titillation. More than anything, it is a portrait of policework, and the gentleness and thoroughness of the investigators is striking; any one of us would hope to be so carefully served. After five short episodes, the series is in stasis, but we'd expect to see new episodes as information develops.
