Secrets of the Fifth Estate

Secrets of the Fifth Estate

We're not familiar with Canada’s favourite investigative television program, The Fifth Estate. Happily, we didn't need to be in order to love this new series, which re-examines the program’s most iconic stories through the eyes of the journalists who reported them. There's always a special fascination in listening to professionals explain how they do what they do, dissembling and reassembling their work before our eyes (ears), and this is no exception. In form, it has a flavour of Esquire Classic – we hear clips from the original program, alongside the reporters’ recollections of producing the story, and any post-broadcast updates – and it helps that the original stories are gripping in their own right, scattered with memorable characters and moments; the first episode, ‘Why didn’t we know?’, left us gaping. New episodes weekly.
