2 Dope Queens

2 Dope Queens

With their first series having wrapped in June, now is the perfect time to explore the merry, madcap world of the 2 Dope Queens, aka comedy wunderkinds Jessica Williams (lately of The Daily Show) and Phoebe Robinson (author of a forthcoming book, You Can't Touch My Hair). In each episode, the two host a comedy night featuring some of the brightest talent going: Lindy West, Naomi Ekperigin, Baratunde Thurston, John Early, et al. Between sets, our hosts banter and bicker with the familiarity of sisters, and are frank about their experience of being young and black in America. At the conclusion of this 12-part series, you'll have heard about the guy who gave Robinson tips on shaping up her thighs and Williams' late-in-life deflowering and their joint experience of a Billy Joel concert, and the two of them will feel like your best and funniest friends. A joy from start to finish, with each episode running close to an hour.

Supplementary listening: While Jessica keeps busy signing Comedy Central deals, Phoebe has just launched another new podcast for WNYC, Sooo Many White Guys, in which she interviews people who aren't white guys (psych).

Gateway episodes: #2 Billy Joel Has The Softest Hands (7 Apr 2016) / #4 How to Channel Your Inner White Lady (19 Apr 2016) / #9 Clench (24 May 2016)
